2 weeks

Wednesday to Sunday, 8 hours a day

ABOUT

A two-week program that will introduce aspiring culinary enthusiasts with the fundamental knowledge, hands-on skills, and professional etiquette required for entry-level positions in restaurants, catering, and food service establishments.

Participants will work with trained Chefs, in industrial kitchens, to improve their skills, gain confidence and be introduced to the culinary arts.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN

Part 1: Soft Skills

  • Different culinary roles and responsibilities
  • Vocabulary used in kitchens
  • Teamwork and communication
  • Hygiene and personal conduct
  • Workplace stress and conflict
  • Employment tips (resumes, cover letters, interviews)

Part 2: Hands-on Training

  • Kitchen and workplace safety
    • E.g. - handwashing, sanitizing, WHMIS
  • Knife skills
    • E.g. - identifying types of knives and cuts, safety
  • Food safety
    • E.g. - temperature, cross-contamination, storing and labelling food
  • Food Preparation
    • E.g. – identify kitchen tools and ingredients, measurements, various dish setups

COST: Free (Knife set, uniform and shoes provided)

ELIGIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS

  • A passion and willingness to learn a new skill
  • 18+ years old
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, holidays
  • Able to bend, reach, stand and lift for 8 hours
